About the role

The Craftperson - Facilities is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, safety, and minimal operational downtime. This role applies advanced technical knowledge across multiple skilled trades—including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building maintenance—to troubleshoot issues, execute repairs, and implement system improvements that enhance efficiency and reliability. The Craftperson routinely inspects equipment, identifies potential failures, and takes proactive measures to prevent disruptions. This role may also provide guidance, training, and oversight to junior team members, ensuring work is completed in alignment with established standards, policies, and performance targets. Collaboration with internal teams, supervisors, and external contractors or vendors is required. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and proficiency in interpreting schematics and construction drawings, while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations and company procedures. The Craftperson is also responsible for accurately documenting maintenance activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the facilities operation.

Responsibilities

• Performs scheduled maintenance on facilities equipment and systems.
• Repairs malfunctioning machines, systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Routinely checks machinery and systems for signs of fault to prevent or minimize downtime and interruptions.
• Initiates improvements to enhance the functionality and efficiency of facilities equipment and systems.
• May act as a team leader to ensure work meets agreed targets by directly overseeing team members.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the field's policies, procedures, and practices.
• Documents activities accordingly.
• Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and two years of related experience.
• Knowledge of basic carpentry, including interior wall framing, hanging framing, installing doors, Sheetrock installation and finishing techniques, and installation of suspended ceilings.
• Basic floor repairs for carpet and tile type flooring.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing repair for facility fixtures and drains.
• Ability to install conduit and pull wire.
• Ability to measure and interpret line and phase voltages and currents.
• Ability to operate power snakes and other drain cleaning devices.
• Understanding of basic mechanical blueprint reading principles.
• Understanding of motor controls, sensors, and electrical control devices.
• Understanding of basic fluid principles and their application to equipment.
• Ability to read basic construction drawings.
• Understanding of refrigeration and air conditioning principles of operation.
• Knowledge of facility roof types and basic repair techniques.
• Knowledge of boiler operation, controls, heat sources, and supply systems.
• Understanding and application of Self-Directed Work Team (SDWT) principles.
• Ability to maintain electric water heating systems.
• Understanding of humidification and dehumidification equipment.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance on facility support equipment.
• Knowledge of company change control process.
• Understanding of positive pressure requirements in controlled environments.
• Knowledge of refrigerant types, condensers, pumps, evaporators, expansion devices, and safety control devices.
• Knowledge of Hazwoper, confined spaces, lockout/tagout, and protective clothing requirements.
• Ability to recover and charge refrigeration systems.
• Ability to maintain facility lighting circuits, troubleshoot/replace fixtures, bulbs, and ballasts (Electrician path).
• Knowledge of facility power distribution systems (Electrician path).
• Ability to install black iron pipe and fittings (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to install copper pipe, tubing, and related fittings (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to solder and braze (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to identify gauge types, cut, and bend sheet metals (Pipefitter path).
• Knowledge of operating principles of air handling systems (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to maintain chiller systems.
• Ability to maintain cooling tower systems.
• Ability to perform on-the-job training of co-workers.
• Ability to coordinate project assignments.
• Ability to perform welding as trained.
• Working knowledge of heat exchangers and their operations (Pipefitter path).
• Working knowledge of U.V. filtering systems (Pipefitter path).
• Working knowledge of reverse osmosis process systems (Pipefitter path).
• Knowledge of backflow preventers (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to maintain steam system traps, regulators, and control valves (Pipefitter path).
• Ability to balance HVAC systems (Electrician path).

• Ability to troubleshoot PLC controlled equipment (Electrician path).
• Ability to maintain emergency backup power generators (Electrician path).

The targeted range for this role takes into account factors such as skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for geographic differentials.
