About the role

This position will perform gas maintenance and construction work. Our crews play a critical role in providing consistent, reliable service to homes and businesses within our territory.

Training Locations: Residency Requirements: Travel time from your primary residence to your assigned headquarters must be 35 minutes or less under normal driving conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model to the crew/team in attitude, promotion of harmony, safety, productivity, communications, work ethics, emergency response, and business decision making.
  • Coach employees on their performance regarding safety, productivity, and work ethics.
  • Perform the duties of journeyman in the respective classification when collective bargaining agreement language applies.
  • Supervise personnel in the safe construction of distribution and transmission systems.
  • Conduct tailgate sessions to assess and discuss job hazards and required personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure all crew members sign the job-briefing form if required.
  • Lead by example by wearing PPE (safety glasses, earplugs, hard hats, etc.) and modeling behavior to improve safety performance (e.g., lead stretching, safety meetings, safety talks).
  • Know and enforce safety rules, practices, regulations, and operating procedures.
  • Observe employees performing work to correct at-risk behavior and advise supervisors when employees continually fail to follow safety rules.
  • Promote teamwork to improve safety and productivity.
  • Manage productivity and quality of workmanship for employees under your supervision, treating them as your own business.
  • Manage costs related to tools and safety equipment (loss, misuse, breakage, proper care).
  • Supervise and discuss performance/productivity issues with employees, taking action to correct and improve.
  • Plan work to eliminate barriers, improve productivity, and maximize resources to reduce costs.
  • Train, develop, and evaluate apprentices, seeking feedback on personal performance through one-on-one coaching sessions.
  • Coach and mentor employees to improve technical skills, safety practices, collaboration, and planning.
  • Provide constructive feedback and discuss performance issues with employees to reinforce desired behavior.
  • Develop technical ability (yours and your team’s) through continuous line training and adherence to standards.
  • Make sound business decisions by managing assigned resources—people, equipment, and dollars.
  • Monitor cellular phone usage and oversee equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicles are fully utilized across projects and oversee or complete paperwork accurately and timely (mapping, timekeeping, safety reports, material issues, returns).
  • Ensure accuracy of required paperwork (STORMS orders, tailgate forms, vehicle inspections, crew timesheets).
  • Act as Company liaison with customers, contractors, and other individuals, managing interactions to promote good relations.
  • Treat employees, peers, customers, and vendors transparently, ethically, and professionally.
  • Communicate effectively with management and coworkers, informing managers of unresolved issues.
  • Coordinate work with other departments and manage assets in your charge (e.g., periodic inspections, daily pre-trip inspections).
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge of construction standards and applications, including knowledge of the union contract.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must be a Journey Level Gas Mechanic.
  • Must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.
  • This position requires gas pipeline and valid CDL qualifications.
  • This position has emergency response requirements.
  • Subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40, FMCSA (Part 382), and PHMSA (Part 199) regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License.

Skills

  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, hand and power tools, and other machinery.
  • Knowledge of confined spaces, trenching, and shoring standards.
  • Ability to read and comprehend company operating standards, safety rules, and equipment/technical manuals.
  • Good reading and math comprehension skills.
  • Certified in CPR and first aid.
  • Good mechanical ability.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with other employees.
  • Knowledge and practice of good public relations.
  • Ability to wear and use all safety equipment.

Pay

$54.10 - $54.10 per hour.
