Operating Crew Lead
Job Summary
Aid management by providing services including, but not limited to, discussing work content, assigning personnel, reviewing work, planning work, ensuring accuracy of appropriate paperwork. Responsible for the safe, environmentally compliant operation of the respective plant with a focus on continuous improvement and profitability.
What You Will Do
- Act as a role model in attitude, safety, productivity, emergency response, and business decision-making.
- Coach employees on their performance in these areas of their job.
- Lead by example – wear personal protective equipment (safety glasses, ear plugs, hard hat, etc.).
- Know safety rules/practices, regulations, and operating procedures and ensure they are followed.
- Demonstrate leadership in safety.
- Observe and enforce safety rules and practices.
- Encourage safe work behaviors and promptly correct conditions and unsafe behavior.
- Inform supervisor when employee continually fails to follow safety rules, work in a safe manner, or use proper tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), and equipment.
- Manage employee productivity and performance.
- Promote teamwork to maximize safety and productivity.
- Monitor and discuss performance/productivity issues (positive and negative) with employees.
- Inform management when employee continually fails to meet productivity or performance measures.
- Continually strive to reduce costs.
- Ensure accuracy of appropriate paperwork and complete as required.
- Communicate effectively with management and co-workers alike.
- Inform management when problems continue after addressing and trying to resolve.
- Knowledge of union contract.
- Understand objectives of the business unit and vision of the company.
- Communicate goals to employees assigned and execute work consistent with business unit/plant objectives.
- Share performance measures with employees.
- Promote team-based environment and harmony among team members.
- Serve as the role model of the team in all respects (safety, communications, attitude, work ethic, etc.).
- Ensure that all aspects of plant operations remain in compliance with environmental rules and regulations.
- Operate boilers, turbine generators, compression turbines, and according to location, may perform electrical switching.
- Perform Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures to take equipment out of service and to restore equipment to active status.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) and may assist with maintenance work.
- Be able to operate all units in the plant.
- Report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.
- Ensure employees report to work in appropriate mental and physical condition and ready to work.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Ability to read P&ID’s, operating manuals, technical manuals, mechanical aptitude
- Reading and math knowledge
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read and comprehend RIGHT TO KNOW information
- Basic knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Ability to exercise good judgment during emergencies
- Capacity for quick, accurate decisions and speed of execution
- Basic computer skills required
