About the role

Under direction, maintains and processes departmental or division fiscal records and prepares related reports. The work involves supervision and performance of accounts maintenance, financial transaction processing, personnel action processing, procurement, and payroll as it relates to time and attendance for all shifts and weekend Community Use of Public Facilities. Workers set up, maintain, process, and prepare reports on fiscally-related activities, interacting with unit administrators, staff, and central office staff to ensure timely and accurate completion. Direct and/or functional work direction is exercised over other office staff.

This position is grant-funded. Candidate must possess knowledge of the Concentration of Poverty Grant (Community Schools) within Pillar 1 of the Blueprint for Maryland's Schools. Strong customer service habits and willingness to collaborate in the creation of structured fiscal processes are required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and process fiscal records for the department or division
  • Prepare related financial reports
  • Supervise and perform accounts maintenance and financial transaction processing
  • Handle personnel action processing and procurement activities
  • Manage payroll-related tasks, including time and attendance for all shifts and weekend Community Use of Public Facilities
  • Set up, maintain, and process fiscally-related activities and prepare reports
  • Interact with unit administrators, staff, and central office staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of work
  • Provide direct and/or functional work direction to other office staff

Requirements

  • High School or GED diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred
  • Coursework in finance, accounting, business, or commercial subjects
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible office and accounting/fiscal experience, with at least 2 years at a level requiring independent judgment
  • Considerable knowledge of accounts maintenance, procurement procedures, personnel, and payroll processing, including related recordkeeping
  • Working knowledge of office methods and procedures, including file research, recordkeeping, and statistical compilation
  • Working knowledge of research methods and data processing capabilities
  • Ability to perform accounts clerical work quickly and accurately
  • Ability to perform duties in accordance with strict schedules
  • Ability to maintain a central record system and prepare reports from researched data
  • High degree of aptitude for arithmetical and statistical computations
  • Knowledge of general and paraprofessional accounting practices, business English, and modern office practices
  • Ability to reconcile financial accounting data and spot and correct arithmetic or posting errors
  • Good oral and written communication and human relations skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS)
  • Knowledge of the Concentration of Poverty Grant (Community Schools) within Pillar 1 of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Schools

Physical Demands

  • May operate computer terminals for prolonged periods

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $26.23 and $38.51 per hour, based on years of service.
