About the Role

The Community School Liaison will plan and provide comprehensive support for a designated Community School, working as part of the school's leadership and support teams. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Community Schools and in collaboration with the elementary school principal, this role involves developing a needs assessment and strategic plan to expand wraparound services, including:

  • Extended learning opportunities for students outside of school hours
  • School-based health and wellness services
  • Family engagement and support services
  • Programs to improve student attendance
  • Training for staff and community partners to align with the Community Schools mission

This position operates in a collaborative partnership between MCPS and MCEA, serving as an advocate, role model, and supporter of diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, and exceptionalities.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school leadership, staff, community agencies, parents, and stakeholders to assess needs and develop a strategic plan for wraparound services
  • Expand out-of-school learning opportunities, health/wellness services, and family engagement initiatives
  • Implement programs to improve student attendance and support staff training
  • Serve as an advocate for students and a supporter of diversity and inclusion
  • Plan and attend school meetings, events, and programs outside of instructional hours as required by the MCEA contract
  • Engage with families and community organizations to support Community Schools initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (coursework in education, communication, or counseling preferred)
  • Meets Maryland State Certification requirements in a relevant specialist area (e.g., social work, school counseling, pupil personnel worker, therapy, speech-language pathology, or teaching)
  • Documented experience in program development and implementation
  • Experience developing and facilitating professional development in Community Schools focus areas
  • Three or more years of community outreach and organizing experience preferred

  • Considerable knowledge of child development and learning
  • Working knowledge of Community Schools and their components
  • Commitment to high expectations and the belief that all students can learn
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and engage families and organizations
  • Knowledge of instructional and behavioral management strategies for community schools
  • Strong self-reflection skills for continuous improvement
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, staff, students, parents, and community organizations
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move around the building, including stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods
  • Capability to move heavy objects
  • May require participation in physical restraints during crisis intervention

Special Requirements

This is a grant-supported position through the Blueprint for Maryland's Future. The role requires planning and attending school meetings, events, and programs outside of instructional hours as mandated by the MCEA contract.

Pay

Salary for 12-month positions ranges from $78,361 to $159,500, based on education and experience.
