Fundraising Doesn't Have to Suck. Volunteer Fundraising Lead | 5–10 hrs/week | Remote
Legacy Paws Rescue is a veteran‑owned 501(c)(3) dog rescue and sanctuary in North Carolina that operates a five‑acre sanctuary and a “Community of Kindness” connecting dogs and people through prevention, education, fostering, rehoming, enrichment, and experiences. The organization is run by a single person and is seeking a Volunteer Fundraising Lead to help build a sustainable, creative fundraising function.
About the role
This is a volunteer leadership position (approximately 5–10 hours per week, remote‑friendly) that will work directly with Legacy Paws leadership and other volunteer leads. The role involves creating, testing, and scaling innovative fundraising ideas and experiences that engage donors in memorable ways, rather than traditional, repetitive asks.
Responsibilities
- Develop fundraising ideas that people actually want to participate in (e.g., dog adventures, competitions, mystery experiences, community challenges, art, games, business collaborations, pay‑it‑forward experiences).
- Turn good ideas into real campaigns and experiences.
- Develop business partnerships and sponsorships.
- Create recurring revenue opportunities.
- Design memorable donor experiences.
- Test ideas, track results, and iterate—keeping what works and discarding what doesn’t.
- Help build a team around the fundraising function as the program grows.
Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising, sales, marketing, events, business development, sponsorships, donor relations, community engagement, or a demonstrated ability to excite people about ideas.
- Ability to work independently, follow through, and build relationships.
- Willingness to pitch unconventional ideas and think creatively when faced with skepticism.
- No requirement for animal‑rescue experience, nonprofit degree, existing donor list, residency in North Carolina, or exhaustive fundraising knowledge.
- Strong emphasis on mindset and creativity over adherence to existing playbooks.
Schedule
5–10 hours per week, remote‑friendly.
