Fund Manager

About the role

As a Fund Manager, you will drive financial excellence in life sciences research within the MCDB Group. Working as part of a collaborative five-person team, you will oversee the management of $5–7 million in operating and extramural funds. Partner directly with faculty to develop grant proposals, prepare detailed budgets, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. This role offers the opportunity to provide strategic financial guidance, manage reporting, and generate projections that support decision-making and advance scientific discovery.

Responsibilities

• Manage extramural and operating funds, ensuring compliance with financial policies.
• Interpret and apply technical documents, including agency policies, award documents, and financial statements.
• Apply federal and state contract and grant policies, including proposal preparation for life sciences.
• Analyze financial data from multiple sources and generate accurate, timely reports.
• Utilize procurement practices and online purchasing/account payable systems (e.g., BruinBuy+).
• Understand payroll and personnel policies, practices, and systems.
• Design and implement spreadsheets and databases for financial and administrative purposes.
• Balance ledgers, process adjustments, and maintain accurate financial records.
• Communicate complex financial and administrative information effectively to diverse audiences.
• Prepare business correspondence, reports, and financial documents.
• Meet tight deadlines and expedite administrative processes accurately.
• Use word processing and other software to create templates, reports, and administrative documents.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of experience in extramural fund management (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience/training (required).
• Strong knowledge of federal and state contract and grant policies.
• Proficiency in designing and implementing financial spreadsheets and databases.
• Ability to balance ledgers and maintain accurate financial records.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Pay

UCLA offers a full pay range, with actual salary determined by factors such as budget, experience, skills, knowledge, education, licensure, and certifications. Salary offers at the top of the range are uncommon.

Schedule

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
