About the role
This position assists the Manager in creating an environment that promotes teamwork, continuous improvement, learning, customer satisfaction, excellent quality of product and high standards of service. It involves managing staff, planning work schedules, and ensuring proper procedures and guidelines are followed.
Responsibilities
- Hiring and disciplining of employees, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, evaluating performance, and directing work assignments.
- Preparing daily sales reports, adjusting staffing and inventory levels based on sales volume, and planning and preparing work schedules.
- Generating sales promotion activities, preparing or directing workers in merchandising and stocking of location, and assisting in training crew leads on proper product storage and rotation.
- Checking in deliveries from vendors for quality and accuracy of product, resolving customer issues and complaints, and supervising and training employees engaged in various tasks.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel.
- Completing opening, daily, and closing procedures/checklists in accordance with company policies/procedures, and ensuring compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local laws/regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; at least one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or at least one year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Convenience and Retail experience is preferred.
- Food Handler certificate from County of San Diego preferred.
- Strong communications, supervisory, and mathematical skills are required.
Qualifications
- Minimum education, training, and experience required: High School Diploma or GED; at least one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or at least one year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mathematical skills: Ability to apply basic math concepts and calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, portions, percentages, and volume.
- Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions, prioritize work, and maintain attention to detail.
- Physical demands: Must be able to operate food service equipment, utilize a computer, and move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds.
Skills
- Strong communication skills: Ability to write correspondence, communicate with customers and employees, and present information.
- Supervisory skills: Ability to assist in hiring and disciplining employees, setting work priorities, and directing work assignments.
