Job Summary

The Youth Care Advocate ensures professional, safe care in a secure environment, applying YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies. They interact and counsel clients, maintaining a positive role model and fostering client self-worth.

Program/Department Responsibilities

  • Ensure security procedures are followed to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
  • Closely monitor clients during daily activities and night routines, enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Plan and supervise activities during free time, such as games and discussions.
  • Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including paperwork and client belongings management.
  • Complete required paperwork and documentation, such as log entries, incident reports, and meal count sheets.
  • Prevent and manage crisis situations using therapeutic crisis intervention skills and physical restraints if necessary.
  • Attend and participate in required program meetings and professional trainings.
  • Maintain required certifications and adhere to CARF standards.
  • Work as part of a team, follow policies and procedures, and adhere to YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies.
  • Assume PIC responsibilities as assigned and ensure emergency procedures are posted and followed.
  • Complete resident monthly reports and assist other OCY programs as directed.
  • Receive permission from the Program Director to leave shifts for proper staff coverage.
  • Accept advocacy responsibilities for assigned residents, report suspected child abuse, and assist with meal preparation and laundry.
  • Be punctual and follow the program’s policies and procedures.
  • Use personal vehicle for assignments and be reimbursed for mileage.

Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read and write cohesively for incident reporting.
  • Completion of yearly DEEC and OCY training programs.
  • Active and valid drivers license.

Hours

This position is 40 hours per week.
