Job Summary

The Youth Care Advocate ensures professional, safe care in a secure environment, applying YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies. They maintain a positive role model, enhancing clients' self-worth and encouraging their full potential.

Program/Department Responsibilities

• Ensure security procedures are followed to provide a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
• Closely monitor clients during daily activities and night routines, enforcing program rules.
• Plan and supervise activities during free time, such as games and discussions.
• Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including paperwork and client belongings management.
• Complete required paperwork and documentation, such as log entries, incident reports, and meal count sheets.
• Prevent and manage crisis situations using therapeutic crisis intervention skills and physical restraints if necessary.
• Attend and participate in required program meetings and professional trainings.
• Maintain required certifications and complete MAP certification within six months of start date.
• Accept and fulfill advocacy responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, and supporting assigned residents.
• Report suspected child abuse to the supervisor or DCF.
• Supervise, prepare, and assist in meal preparation and laundry chores.
• Be punctual and follow program policies and procedures.
• Assume PIC responsibilities as assigned.
• Ensure emergency procedures are posted and followed.
• Complete supply inventories upon request.
• Provide professional and courteous telephone service.

Requirements

• At least 21 years old
• High School education or equivalent
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to read and write cohesively for incident reporting
• Completion of DEEC yearly requirements and OCY training programs
