Job Summary
The Youth Care Advocate ensures professional, safe care in a secure environment, applying YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies. They maintain a positive role model, enhancing clients' self-worth and encouraging their full potential.
Program/Department Responsibilities
- Ensure security procedures are followed to provide a safe, secure, and healthy environment.
- Closely monitor clients during daily activities and night routines, enforcing program rules.
- Plan and supervise activities during free time, such as games and discussions.
- Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including paperwork and client belongings management.
- Complete required paperwork and documentation, such as log entries, incident reports, and meal count sheets.
- Prevent and manage crisis situations using therapeutic crisis intervention skills and physical restraints if necessary.
- Attend and participate in required program meetings and professional trainings.
- Maintain required certifications and complete MAP certification within six months of start date.
- Accept and fulfill advocacy responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, and supporting assigned residents.
- Report suspected child abuse to the supervisor or DCF.
- Supervise, prepare, and assist in meal preparation and laundry chores.
- Be punctual and follow program policies and procedures.
- Assume PIC responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure emergency procedures are posted and followed.
- Complete supply inventories upon request.
- Provide professional and courteous telephone service.
Requirements
- At least 21 years old
- High School education or equivalent
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to read and write cohesively for incident reporting
- Completion of DEEC yearly requirements and OCY training programs
