Responsibilities
- Performs hemodialysis treatment procedures safely and efficiently.
- Provides specialized registered nursing care in accordance with state law.
- Assumes primary nurse responsibilities as directed.
- Communicates significant information to the appropriate team members.
- Documents in a clear, concise, and thorough manner.
- Administers medications and performs routine tests.
- Delegates responsibilities appropriately and follows through in carrying out delegated responsibilities.
- Assumes day-to-day functions of the Charge Nurse in absence.
- Participates in unit's Quality Assurance Program and IDT/QAPI committees.
- Maintains a neat and clean environment.
- Ensures the confidentiality of patient, employee, and company information.
- Prepares daily dialysis logs and set-ups for each shift of patients.
- Stocks and orders necessary blood work supplies.
- Participates in self and/or peer evaluations.
- Reports errors and near misses to prevent recurrence.
- Reports any negative feedback, complaints, grievances from other staff members, patients, and families.
- Uses evidence-based guidelines and proper infection control practices.
- Develops and/or participates in in-service education programs.
- Assists in orientation of new staff members.
- Contributes to a positive and productive atmosphere.
- Participates in performance improvement projects.
- Reports any concerns, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent.
- Current RN License for Connecticut.
- CPR certification (or within three months of hire).
- One year of Hemodialysis RN experience is required (two to three years of experience preferred).
- Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.
- Understands basic renal function and consequences of renal failure.
- Recognizes changes in patients on dialysis and makes necessary adjustments in their therapy.
- Understands legal consequences of nursing actions, both immediate and long-term.
- Promotes the education of patients and the understanding of their disease and its treatment.
- Accurately assesses the patient’s readiness to learn.
- Plans and implements appropriate teaching methods for each patient.
- Understands the implications of common lab results as they apply to the ESRD patient.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the implications of common lab results as they apply to the ESRD patient.
- Knows and follows all Rendevor policies and procedures for infection control.
- Understands the hazards associated with failing to follow these procedures.
- Contributes to a harmonious and constructive working relationship with all staff members.
- Assumes responsibility for special unit projects as directed by the Charge Nurse.
- Participates in performance improvement projects within licensure, certification, and scope of practice.
