Full-Time Building Substitute Teacher
Falk School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a full-time substitute K-8 teacher to help with daily coverage needs.
About the role
A substitute teacher is an individual who, in the absence of the classroom teacher, is responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment. It is essential that the substitute teacher follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher so that the curriculum continues to move forward.
Responsibilities
- Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
- Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teacher’s lesson plans.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Performs work in all areas of the school, grounds, and/or any area in which a school activity or function is taking place, including field trips and work-based learning.
- Other duties as required that are part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.
Substitute teachers are subject to daily reassignment depending on the needs of the day. Duties may include:
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
- Moderate lifting/moving of various items from 15-35 pounds.
- Physical ability to use office equipment.
- Exposure to varying degrees of temperature relative to outdoor conditions.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree is required; teaching certification is preferred.
- Successful teaching experience in an elementary classroom; both middle school and elementary school teaching experience is a plus.
- Authentic passion and enthusiasm for progressive education.
- Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check (required before commencement of employment).
- Proof of a negative TB test before the first day of work.
- Completion of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release Form (Act 168 of 2014).
Pay
The minimum base salary is $50,000; credit will be given for years of relevant experience.
