Full-time Assistant or Associate Professor or Professor of Practice in Educational Counseling and Academic Program Director

The Department of ABA, School Psychology, and Educational Counseling (ASPEC), in the Sanford College of Education (SCOE) at National University invites applications for an Assistant or an Associate in Educational Counseling. Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach and develop online or onsite courses in the following areas: Counseling theories, counseling law and ethics, current issues in school and college counseling, program review, crisis intervention, trauma in youth, social and cultural issues, career development, group counseling and assessment and evaluation.
• Maintain pedagogical and subject matter expertise in the instructor’s field.
• Create an inclusive and positive learning environment for diverse learners.
• Ensure course and program practices align with compliance and accreditation standards.
• Adhere to the National University’s academic integrity policy.
• Maintain a productive scholarship agenda suitable to a teaching university.
• Engage in scholarly activities to maintain professional growth.
• Participate in professional development as outlined in faculty policies.
• Participate in curriculum oversight, shared governance, and the student experience.
• Serve on committees at the program, department, college or/and university level and engage in community activities that promote program outreach and university goals.
• Attend departmental and college level meetings as a representative of the program.
• Meet regularly with the College leadership (Department Chair/Associate Dean and/or Dean) to ensure that the program aligns with University and College goals and priorities.
• Collaborate with program faculty in support of student success, as well as the Director of Assessment to conduct program assessment on a regular basis to ensure the program is meeting the needs of the student and the program’s related industries and where applicable, the programmatic accreditation requirements.
• Serve as the lead discipline expert for the program as well as primary contact for multiple stakeholders.
• Ensure the incorporation of identified trends or changes into the curriculum, in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum, and serve in either a direct or consulting role during course development, updating, and maintenance.

Qualifications

• Terminal degree e.g. Ph.D or Ed.D. degree in Educational Counseling or related discipline, required.
• Leadership experience as a director or coordinator of a school counseling graduate program.
• Understanding of school counselor roles in California public schools.
• Experience with online education.
• Current California PPS credential in school counseling.
• Specialization in Community College Counseling is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience navigating and interpreting California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) policies for Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credentialing.
