Full Time Educational Counselor
About the role
The School Counselor provides ongoing academic, pragmatic, and social-emotional support to students with complex learning profiles throughout the school day as determined by the needs of the program. The School Counselor supports teachers in the implementation of curriculum, maintains a safe and nurturing environment, provides academic support, engages and facilitates students’ transitions, supervises and implements coverage activities, supervises students in all school locations, and provides ongoing social-emotional support.
Responsibilities
- Supports teachers in the implementation of curriculum.
- Maintains a safe and nurturing environment.
- Provides academic support, accommodations, and modifications as needed.
- Engages and facilitates students’ transitions between classes and throughout the building.
- Supervises and implements coverage activities during staff absences.
- Supervises students in all school locations as needed, including during arrival and dismissal.
- Provides ongoing social-emotional support to students in the classroom and milieu.
- With supervision, designs and implements activities/classes, if needed.
- Completes student-related documentation as necessary.
- Prepares and maintains the milieu and classrooms for use each day.
- Proctors testing sessions, providing IEP-mandated accommodations as required.
- Models appropriate social cues and body language and provides social pragmatic support as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Education preferred
- Experience with children and/or adolescents 0-1 year preferred
