Fueler / QP (Mechanical Helper)
About the Role
Drummac, Inc. is an integrated rail services company specializing in mechanical and janitorial services for the transportation industry. As a Mechanical Apprentice (Qualified Person, or QP), you will maintain and repair passenger rail cars and locomotives under the supervision of a Passenger Rail Mechanic. Fuelers ensure Amtrak locomotives and equipment are routinely supplied with fuel while working collaboratively with Amtrak personnel and passengers to represent Drummac professionally.
Responsibilities
Fuelers
- Perform fueling in a safe and efficient manner.
- Accurately account for fuel transactions and input data into the fuel management system.
- Conduct daily Quality Control checks on equipment.
- Perform water audits, sanitation of watering equipment, and water trains as needed.
- Ensure correct loading and balancing of fuel.
- Maintain DEF tote levels and fill trains with DEF as required.
Qualified Person (QP)
- Perform air brake inspections of passenger cars, private cars, and locomotives, with knowledge of air brake systems.
- Conduct locomotive daily inspections; troubleshoot and repair/replace parts.
- Troubleshoot passenger cars, including toilet systems, air conditioning, doors, panels, lights, electrical systems, and brake systems, making necessary repairs.
- Complete regulatory, client, and company-required paperwork.
- Perform electrical tests, remove, disassemble, replace, repair, modify, rebuild, assemble, adjust, and maintain batteries and electrical components on locomotives.
- Provide Blue signal protection, set up, and remove Blue flags/lights.
- Apply and remove 480V ground power cables.
- Perform cleaning duties on passenger rail cars and locomotives as needed.
- Communicate inspection findings verbally and/or in writing to supervisors.
- Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as required.
- Adapt to dynamic train schedules with a flexible work schedule.
- Work outdoors in inclement conditions while using required protective equipment.
- Prioritize personal safety and the safety of others on the job.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent reading, writing, and reasoning skills).
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Positive work history and personnel record.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment screening process.
Pay
Hourly rate range for Fueler/QP (Mechanical Helper) candidates in Sacramento, California: $23–$25. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on relevant skills and experience.
