About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Staff Frontend Engineer - MTS 2 to join our team dedicated to building eBay Live, eBay’s newest live shopping platform. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of live commerce by developing scalable, high-performance frontend solutions that enable real-time interaction between buyers and sellers. You will be instrumental in translating complex requirements into robust software designs, guiding technical decisions, and mentoring team members. Your expertise will help shape a market-leading live shopping experience that aligns with eBay’s strategic goals and enhances the overall user journey. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will leverage innovative technologies to deliver seamless, responsive, and engaging features that meet high standards of quality and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in front-end system design and development
  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, and server-side rendering frameworks
  • Experience with open-source UI libraries such as Material UI or Angular Material
  • Strong understanding of REST and GraphQL API integrations
  • Experience with BEM-structured CSS, Webpack, and Express.js
  • Contributions to common libraries and reusable components
  • Track record of designing scalable, distributed, and highly available systems
  • Experience leading complex software delivery projects and backend integration

Responsibilities

  • Translate requirements into efficient, maintainable, and scalable software designs
  • Develop and implement frontend features for eBay Live, ensuring responsiveness and accessibility
  • Guide technical decision-making and influence cross-domain teams
  • Identify opportunities to improve team productivity and engineering velocity
  • Design flexible solutions to accommodate future changes and evolving requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver innovative, high-quality features
  • Practice evidence-centered design to enhance testability and continuous delivery
  • Manage project features, break down tasks, and resolve issues efficiently
  • Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor team members
  • Contribute to architecture decision records and technical documentation
  • Identify system gaps, propose solutions, and drive engineering roadmap initiatives
  • Lead engineering support, deployment, and on-call responsibilities for a 24/7 platform
