About The Role
Motional is seeking an experienced Staff Front End Engineer to join its Web Visualization Tooling team. This pivotal role involves leading the development of critical web tooling and visualization systems that enhance feedback loops for machine learning engineers and improve the performance and adaptability of autonomous vehicle systems. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for user-facing applications, excellent technical expertise in modern frontend technologies, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams. You will be responsible for architecting and scaling a modern frontend ecosystem using React, TypeScript, and Vue, ensuring that the tools and interfaces developed meet the complex needs of internal stakeholders and contribute to the broader mission of advancing autonomous vehicle technology.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of web visualization tools and UI systems used internally by various teams
- Establish and promote best practices, standards, and architectures for frontend development
- Collaborate closely with machine learning, UX, data services, and annotation teams to align tooling with real-world workflows
- Architect scalable and maintainable frontend ecosystems using React, TypeScript, and Vue
- Design intuitive, data-heavy interfaces that facilitate complex workflows
- Drive performance optimization, scalability, and maintainability across frontend projects
- Ensure timely delivery of features and functionalities through effective cross-team collaboration
- Mentor junior engineers and delegate tasks to foster team growth and knowledge sharing
- Participate in code reviews, technical documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Qualifications
- Proficiency in React, TypeScript, and modern frontend architecture
- Experience with Vue.js
- Strong understanding of UX principles and usability design
- Ability to work autonomously with high ownership and initiative
- Excellent interpersonal and mentoring skills
- Experience in designing, documenting, and implementing technical solutions
- Ability to collaborate directly with customers to identify needs and deliver solutions
- Familiarity with backend systems such as Node.js and Python (preferred but not required)
- Experience in project management and agile methodologies (preferred)
- Background in 3D visualization or game development (a plus)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative environment
- Strong organizational skills and a continuous learning mindset
