Frontend Engineer (React, TypeScript)

About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Staff Frontend Engineer to join our Client Data & Networking Platform team. In this remote role based in the USA, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the data layer of Airbnb’s client technology stack. Your expertise will help empower product teams across the organization to build fast, reliable, and data-rich features at scale. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Android and iOS engineers, infrastructure, and product foundation teams, to develop foundational, cross-platform solutions and improve existing infrastructure and tooling. Your insights and leadership will influence the technical strategy and best practices for web client development across the company, ensuring that Airbnb maintains its innovative edge and delivers exceptional user experiences.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry experience in software engineering.
• Extensive experience working with TypeScript for web application development.
• Proven expertise in designing and integrating with GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Experience working within a Platform, Infrastructure, or Developer Productivity team at a medium to large engineering organization.
• Strong understanding of client networking, performance optimization, caching strategies, client storage solutions, and asynchronous programming.
• Experience mentoring and growing engineering teams, promoting best practices in web client development.
• Ability to influence engineering strategy and shape technical priorities across large organizations.
• Interest in developing internal tooling and CLI applications; experience with agentic AI solutions is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Airbnb product teams to understand their pain points, pilot solutions, and promote adoption of standardized tooling and frameworks.
• Collaborate with Android and iOS engineers to develop cross-platform, foundational solutions that enhance the user experience.
• Work closely with infrastructure and support teams to build additional capabilities on top of existing offerings.
• Participate in all phases of software development, including architecture/design, implementation, testing, and on-call support.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in web client development and contribute to technical strategy discussions.
• Mentor and guide engineering team members to foster growth and ensure high-quality code standards.
• Contribute to the development of internal tooling and CLI applications to improve developer productivity.
