About the Role
The Front Desk Clerk is responsible for customer services, communications, problem solving, office duties, and staff support for the District office or Aquatics Center.
Responsibilities
- Perform front desk customer service duties, including answering phones, providing general information, directing calls, welcoming visitors, selling admissions and concessions, booking birthday parties, and recording attendance.
- Assist with customer service problem solving by listening to concerns, diffusing and troubleshooting requests, checking databases and records, and referring issues to supervisors.
- Perform registration functions, such as providing program information, processing online, walk-in, mailed, or phone registrations, entering registration forms, updating data, and maintaining the registration process.
- Reserve facilities for programs, activities, and customer rentals.
- Perform general office duties, including copying, faxing, word processing, filing, and laminating.
- Operate office equipment, such as computers, copy machines, faxes, credit card machines, and laminators.
- Keep customer service areas neat, clean, and free from clutter.
- Maintain awareness of daily schedules and department functions.
- Arrive on time and be ready to assist customers at the start of the shift.
- Handle cash daily and complete inventory when stocking supplies.
- Perform various duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Experience with money/cash handling, inventory, office duties, and customer service.
- Present a professional and positive image as a front-line representative of the District.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate in English courteously, clearly, tactfully, and persuasively.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy and sometimes noisy office environment.
- Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance and be ready to start work when the shift begins.
- Ability to multitask in a high-stress environment.
- Experience or ability to handle cash transactions.
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, fax machines, copiers, and laminators, and meet District accuracy standards for keyboarding.
- Demonstrated skills in computer software, including word processing, data entry programs, and internet applications; ability to learn additional software programs as needed.
- Developing skill in forward thinking to listen and troubleshoot customer concerns and identify problems.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, division and department heads, and the public.
- Willingness to accept direction for job and skill improvement.
Work Environment and Physical Effort
This is a non-smoking workplace. The work environment is mainly indoors, performed in a District office or aquatics center.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Frequently required to sit.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- May require long periods of sitting or standing in a hot, humid, and noisy environment.
- Includes repetitive keyboarding.
