About the Role
The Specialty Banking Portfolio Manager I supports business development and senior Portfolio Managers by identifying prospects and referrals nationally and regionally, coordinating marketing efforts, and collaborating with Bank team partners. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong sense of duty, and the ability to manage specialized tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
You’ll work in a stable, structured setting with clear responsibilities, ongoing training, and recognition for competence and loyalty. While the role is primarily task-oriented, adaptability and support are provided when changes occur.
Responsibilities
- Support Specialty Banking business development and senior Portfolio Managers in identifying prospects and referrals on a national and regional basis.
- Coordinate marketing efforts for identified prospects with Bank team partners, including Credit, Loan Operations, and Executive Management.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of the Bank’s lending, depository, treasury management, merchant services, wealth, trust, and other products for new and existing clients.
- Assist in reviewing and structuring large, complex transactions; present deals to credit officers; and negotiate credit terms.
- Underwrite pre-screen memos and loan presentations.
- Manage and grow an assigned portfolio by deepening relationships with existing clients and acquiring new ones.
- Monitor client operating performance, including reviewing monthly/quarterly financial statements, completing renewals, increases, annual reviews, watch loan reports, and borrowing base reconciliations.
- Ensure client relationships comply with credit standards.
- Participate in community and business functions to enhance the Bank’s image and establish referral contacts.
- Build strong rapport with clients and associates, treating everyone with respect and consideration.
- Maintain compliance with regulations and Bank policies, including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-3+ years of relevant experience in specialty or commercial banking.
- Related specialty banking or finance experience.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- MBA or certification in the field.
- 3-5+ years of relevant experience in specialty or commercial banking.
- Industry-specific credit background.
- Moody’s Risk Analyst experience.
- Completion of a formal credit training program.
- Strong communication, writing, and sales skills.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to identify key relationships to achieve strategic goals and provide credit knowledge.
- Strong communication skills to engage and persuade internal partners and clients.
- Well-developed organizational skills and efficient time management.
- Ability to make sound, timely decisions and deliver on commitments.
Work Environment
- Office setting with traditional hours.
- Fast-paced environment with periods of rapid work (typically up to 8 hours).
- Physical requirements include pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, raising arms overhead, and grasping tools for extended periods or frequently throughout the day.
- Ability to work overtime and outside routine business hours as needed.
- Travel estimated at 15% of the time.
