Foundry Tooling Specialist - Leeds, AL
About the Role
Our growing Connectors location in Leeds, AL is seeking a Foundry Tooling Specialist to support the manufacturing operation’s tool room and pattern shop technical applications. In this role, you will be a member of the tooling design and CNC manufacturing team, responsible for assisting the pattern shop manager in the design of sand cast and permanent mold foundry tooling. You will also assist in programming CNC mills used to manufacture tooling and create or modify 3D models using AutoCAD Inventor and similar software. Additional responsibilities may include creating work instructions, improving shop layout, and enhancing material storage and handling.
Responsibilities
- Use AutoCAD Inventor to create or modify 3D models of foundry patterns, core tooling, and permanent molds from 3D part models.
- Learn design characteristics that reduce molding defects.
- Program and set up CNC mills to machine patterns and other tooling.
- Operate 3D scanning and printing equipment (training provided).
- Set up and operate RAM and Wire EDM machines.
- Interpret drawing specifications.
- Participate in a team using mold flow software to improve tooling design.
- Contribute to a quality improvement team reviewing scrap output and evaluating tooling design for scrap reduction.
- Fabricate patterns on CNC milling machines.
- Select materials for various die and fixture applications.
- Perform all tasks safely and in a timely manner while adhering to company policies.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of toolroom, shop, or inventory control experience or other relevant experience.
- Experience with Inventor or SolidWorks 3D modeling software.
- Experience programming, setting up, and running CNC machines.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Inventor, CNC programming (manual and CadCam software), and RAM & Wire EDM.
- Familiarity with mold flow software is a plus.
