Forward Deployed Engineer

Caylent is an AI-first cloud services company that helps organizations turn ambitious ideas into meaningful business impact. As an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner and a charter member of Anthropic’s Claude Partner Network, we combine deep expertise in AWS, artificial intelligence, and Anthropic’s Claude platform to help customers modernize their technology, build intelligent products, and move AI from experimentation into production.

About the role

Caylent's Anthropic Business Unit is a dedicated AI services practice built in partnership with Anthropic — Anthropic's first pure-play delivery partner. Engagements are production-grade: agents, data products, AI-augmented operations, workforce transformation. Forward Deployed Engineers live inside client organizations — in their standups, codebases, and architecture decisions. You own your assigned workstreams, deliver production-quality work from day one, and build the independent track record that creates a path to solo account ownership.

We hire into two specializations:

  • Technology-Workforce FDEs embed in engineering, product, and IT organizations building LLM-native production systems.
  • Operational FDEs embed in business functions — Finance, HR, Legal, Supply Chain, and more — building workflow automations and running AI enablement programs for non-technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned workstreams end-to-end within a larger engagement — your scope is yours to drive, not wait on.
  • Build and ship in client codebases and environments — not in sandboxes.
  • Contribute to discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and stakeholder interviews alongside senior FDEs.
  • Translate ambiguous problems into scoped, deliverable work on your assigned scope.
  • Surface risks and blockers early — escalate intentionally when decisions exceed your scope, not for tactical approval.
  • Transfer capability that lasts: document and hand off working software or automations that stand on their own after you leave.
  • Contribute at least one reusable artifact or pattern back to the practice before each engagement closes.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of software engineering, technical delivery, or business systems experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct on assigned scope — managing your own time, priorities, and delivery quality without daily oversight.
  • Hands-on experience in one or more of: LLM application development, cloud-native development, backend engineering, or business automation tooling.
  • Strong communicator: technically clear with engineers, accessible and credible with business stakeholders.
  • High tolerance for ambiguity; starts delivering before every requirement is defined.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs (Claude, AWS Bedrock, or equivalent) — prompt architecture, tool use, basic agent patterns.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development (AWS preferred), containerization, or backend systems.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping: taking an ambiguous problem to a working proof-of-concept quickly.
  • Background in a consulting firm, systems integrator, or professional services environment a plus.

Operational Preferred

  • Deep fluency in at least one business function: Finance, HR, Legal, Sales Ops, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing.
  • Hands-on with Zapier, Power Automate, Airtable, or similar business automation tools.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems: Salesforce, Oracle, D365, Workday, ServiceNow, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting AI or digital adoption programs for non-technical audiences.

Who Thrives Here

You operate without a playbook, earn trust fast, and build things that last. This role works best for people who are energized by figuring things out in motion — day-to-day direction comes from you, not a manager.

Why This Team

  • Ground floor of something real: this BU is early, well-resourced, and anchored to Anthropic — you're writing the playbook, not inheriting one.
  • The work is at the frontier: agents, AI product builds, enterprise adoption at scale.
  • Advancement is tied to delivery performance, not tenure.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance for you and eligible dependents.
  • 401k plan with company match up to 4% and immediate vesting.
  • Competitive phantom equity.
  • Company-issued laptop.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • Term disability and life insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account.
  • Equipment and office stipend.
  • Annual stipend for learning and development.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • 10 paid holidays.

Pay

The expected base salary range for this position is $136,000 - $216,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional compensation components may include bonuses, commissions, equity, and other incentives.

Schedule

This role may require up to 50% travel, depending on business needs.
