About the Role

Carpenters are required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities

• Perform Journeyman level Carpentry work
• Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc.
• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions and diagrams
• Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates
• Set and place forms to proper elevations and location, prepare the base, and install proper reinforcing
• Experience in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming
• Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials; shape materials to prescribed measurements and assemble, fasten with nails, dowel pins, or glue
• Verify accuracy of structures with plumb bob and carpenter’s level
• Perform general Carpentry tasks, such as building and installing barricades, decks, shelves, and other miscellaneous site needs
• Form and finish walls, footers, grade beams, etc.
• Lay out and properly build and place embeds, anchor bolts, etc.
• Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete
• Assist in placing/tying rebar and placing and finishing concrete
• Disassemble, remove, and clean form materials
• Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level
• Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision
• Take direction from a higher-skilled worker or foreman
• Have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction
• Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision
• A Master Journeyman must be able to direct a small crew and/or mentor Journeyman and Helpers

Requirements

• 4 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
• NCCER Certification/License (preferred)
• Minimum 4 years of experience in a Journeyman level role

Skills

• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors
• Set a personal example of safe behavior
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of weight, measurement, and volume
• Common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings
• Keep good balance and work at heights
• See well (either naturally or with correction)
• Hear well (either naturally or with correction)
• Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks
• Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant change in weather and site conditions
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas
• Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements
• Evaluate information based on measurable standards and see details in objects or drawings

Schedule

This position is full-time, typically scheduled to work 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel

Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

$32.00 / hour, commensurate with experience.
