Forklift Operator I

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform pre-shift forklift inspections on Record preventative maintenance activities, quality inspection data, equipment downtime, production output and other key metrics, performing mathematical calculations as
  • Safely operate a propane sit-down forklift to move raw materials or finished products throughout the manufacturing floor, which includes, but is not limited to, keeping production line clear and running and keeping product and raw materials properly stored.
  • Visually inspect material for quality defects; segregate defective product and notify
  • Fill dumpsters from production floor; housekeeping of plant (inside and out).
• Work as a team with production and shipping team to follow all facility Standard Works/processes and improve operations.
• Support the recycling area, when needed, and help to keep it clean.
• Fill in on other areas of the plant (e.g., Machine Operator) as required.
• Assists forklift operator II as needed.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Highly motivated with a good, sound work ethic
• Prior experience operating a propane sit-down forklift or other mobile equipment (Powered Industrial Trucks)
• Must demonstrate safe working practices and possess great attention to detail
• Ability to follow CWT’s policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Good communication, organization, and time management skills
• Basic computer, mathematics, and problem-solving skills; ability to use a calculator
• Able to use measuring devices (gauges, tapes, rulers)
• Team player able to follow instructions from both management and coworkers
• Able to learn and operate new equipment

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 18 years of age
• Must have prior experience in a manufacturing setting

Working Conditions

• Fast paced manufacturing environment where workers are exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures and dust
• Working with mechanical parts and pinch points
• Exposure to increased noise levels

Hours Worked

• 8-10 hours/shift, varies on shift schedule and business
• Flexible to the possibility of overtime and weekend hours when needed

Physical Requirements

• OCCASIONALLY: Lifting or carrying 1-10 lbs, pushing or pulling 1-40 lbs, bending or stooping, reaching above shoulder level, driving automatic vehicles, operating machinery or power tools, climbing ladders, stairs, etc., walking, standing, sitting, working in extreme temperatures, repetitive motion including wrists, hands and/or fingers, vision, hearing, dexterity, hand-eye coordination
• FREQUENTLY: Lifting or carrying 11-20 lbs, pushing or pulling 41-50 lbs, bending or stooping, reaching above shoulder level, driving automatic vehicles, operating machinery or power tools, climbing ladders, stairs, etc., walking, standing, sitting, working in extreme temperatures, repetitive motion including wrists, hands and/or fingers, vision, hearing, dexterity, hand-eye coordination
• CONTINUOUSLY: Lifting or carrying 21-40 lbs, pushing or pulling 51 or more lbs, bending or stooping, reaching above shoulder level, driving automatic vehicles, operating machinery or power tools, climbing ladders, stairs, etc., walking, standing, sitting, working in extreme temperatures, repetitive motion including wrists, hands and/or fingers, vision, hearing, dexterity, hand-eye coordination

Physical Demands

• Eye and hearing protection is required at all times on the production floor
• Safety toe shoes (steel/composite)
• Hi-Vis Vests
• Other PPE as defined by management within assigned areas
