Forklift / Material Handler / Shipping

General Function

Supervises and directs all packing and shipping area operations. Coordinates packing of finished products for shipment to customers, maintains shipping schedules and inventory records.

Duties

• Prepares work schedules for employees and directs daily activities in packing and shipping area.
• Affirms production rate to ensure that orders will be filled completely and shipped according to schedule.
• Trains new personnel.
• Evaluates packing material inventory and orders supplies as necessary.
• Posts and files daily packing inventory control records.
• Oversees the packing of products by evaluating size, weight, and number of products to be packed, and durability of appropriate cartons.
• Keeps Production Control Manager informed of packing and shipping schedules and objectives to be met.
• Maintains a clean work area.
• Maintains inventory control of finished, packed products stored in warehouse.
• Provides recommendations for continuous improvement.

Working Conditions

• Works inside plant where there is a great deal of noise from presses.
• The work may be dusty, dirty and greasy.
• Handles sharp edged metal and exposed to chemicals used in oil.

Physical Effort

• Works on a hard surface;
• Stands, stoops, bends and lifts heavy objects (approximately 50 lbs.).
• Work involves continual movement of hands and arms.

Safety Equipment

• Wears safety shoes, glasses, gloves and ear plugs where required.

Qualification Requirements

• High School diploma and two (2) years of general college study; one (1) more years of shipping and receiving experience; one (1) or more years in a leadership position in shipping and receiving or one (1) or more years supervisory experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) or four (4) years of college or university education, preferring a BS degree in business administration;
• Two (2) or more years experience in shipping and receiving at supervisory level.
