Forklift Field Technician

About the Role

Alta Equipment Group, the largest equipment dealer in North America, is seeking a full-time Forklift Field Service Technician / Mechanic for our Bronx location. This first-shift position (Monday - Friday) is hourly and focuses on servicing forklifts and other material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment
• Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment
• Complete each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
• Provide exceptional customer service
• Work and manage workloads independently
• Properly complete and submit all required paperwork
• Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Maintain consistent, regular, and reliable attendance, including being ready for work at the designated start time

Qualifications

• Previous mechanic repair experience (forklift, heavy equipment, diesel, or automotive), including experience in the Military, Guard, or Reserve with an MOS or NEC code of 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M, or CMS
• Strong working knowledge of electric and liquid propane units
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
• Possess own tools

Skills

• Computer Programs: Experience with HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software, and Hyster contact management system
• Language Skills: Intermediate ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Mathematical Skills: Basic ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
• Reasoning Ability: Intermediate ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technicians are encouraged to participate in our in-house training program to acquire additional skills in diagnosis and troubleshooting, advancing their careers.

• Frequent bending and working from a prone position (lying down while working underneath equipment) are required.

  • Regularly: work near moving mechanical parts
  • Frequently: exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions
  • Occasionally: work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold and heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, vibration
