Foreman - Underground (Oncor)
About the role
The Underground Foreman position is responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role requires a significant amount of field experience and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized underground work.
- Coach crew members and lead training sessions on safe and productive work procedures.
- Conduct pre-job or tailgate briefings and troubleshoot problems on underground circuits.
- Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
- Comply with company reporting procedures and complete required paperwork.
- Coordinate and inspect the work of crew members and plan safe work based on job prints or work orders.
- Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit, understand grounding procedures, and properly install and remove Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Understand and apply proper flag and tag procedures, and work safely in confined spaces.
- Inspect rubber goods and PPE, and understand sloping and shoring requirements.
- Work outside, frequently in inclement weather, and be willing to work over-time and outside of the normal work schedule.
Requirements
- 5-year minimum of recent field experience.
- 2 years in a leadership position.
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Possess a CDL and demonstrate safe driving skills.
- Able to travel long distances on short notice.
- Able to work for extended periods in various locations.
- Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
- Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE.
- Willing to work over-time when requested.
- Willing to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of tools for terminating cable.
- Understanding of grounding procedures.
- Knowledge of how to obtain a one shot on a reclosure.
- Understanding of how to safely operate equipment.
- Understanding of how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
- Understanding of sloping and shoring requirements.
- Understanding of ladder requirements.
- Able to properly ask for and take line clearances.
- Able to identify and locate underground pulling equipment.
- Understanding of line protection devices.
- Understanding of how to safely work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
