About the Role

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is seeking a Food Service Worker to prepare, portion, and serve nutritionally adequate meals and snacks for residents, staff, and guests. This position also prepares salads, nourishments, and carry-out lunches, sets up for special functions, and maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment. The Hastings location is a Domiciliary (DOM) - an independent living community for Veterans that provides a supportive environment fostering a stable, healthy, and meaningful life. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails, and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, portion, and serve nutritionally adequate meals and snacks
  • Prepare salads, nourishments, and carry-out lunches
  • Set up for special functions
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Materials and methods used in preparing food
  • Care and use of cooking utensils and equipment
  • Food values and nutrition

Ability to:

  • Perform simple cooking on a large scale
  • Plan and prepare small meals on a household scale
  • Perform cleaning and food service tasks
  • Read diet cards and follow instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Food service related experience specifically with prepping, plating and serving food
  • Knowledge of basic sanitation standards
  • ServSafe Food Certificate

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check
  • Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray prior to employment
  • Employment reference checks, including review of job performance documentation and contact with former employers

Pay

$20.87 - $25.88 / hourly

Schedule

  • Part-time position (at least 40 hours per 2-week pay period, may include additional hours based on business needs)
  • Rotating shifts: 5:00am-1:30pm and 10:00am-6:30pm
  • Varied days of the week including weekends and holidays
