Food Service Worker / Part-Time, Day Shift
About the role
The Food Service Worker for the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) at the Bemidji Veterans Home (MVH-Bemidji) is responsible for performing routine food service tasks including food preparation, short order cooking, serving meals to residents, dishwashing, and cleaning food service areas. This position is part-time and operates primarily during the day shift.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals to residents according to established policies and procedures.
- Perform cleaning and food service tasks in accordance with sanitation standards.
- Follow dietary instructions provided on diet cards.
- Use cooking utensils and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Prep and plate small meals on a household scale.
- Plan and prepare small meals on a household scale.
Requirements
- Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food.
- Care and use of cooking utensils and equipment.
- Food values and nutrition knowledge.
- Ability to perform simple cooking on a large scale.
- Plan and prepare small meals on a household scale.
- Perform cleaning and food service tasks.
- Read diet cards and follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Food service-related experience, specifically with prepping, plating, and serving food.
- Knowledge of basic sanitation standards.
- ServSafe Food Certificate.
- Knowledge of International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI).
Additional Requirements
- A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position.
- A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
- Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists.
Pay
The starting wage range for this position is $20.87 - $25.88 per hour.
Schedule
This position is designated as part-time and primarily operates during the day shift, with a minimum of 32 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours based on business needs.
