Responsibilities
- Follows departmental infection control policies and procedures, particularly hand washing, personal hygiene, and uniform cleanliness.
- Assists dietitian in monitoring patients who are NPO, on liquid diets, or require calorie counts.
- Collects patient meal selections at the patient's bedside using CBORD software on a wireless tablet, guiding patients to make food choices within their diet restrictions.
- Exhibits exemplary customer service during interactions with patients, family, and hospital personnel, ensuring a positive experience during each encounter.
- Assembles patient trays in the main kitchen, ensuring accuracy and appearance, and delivers them using two patient identifiers for safety.
- Assists patients with meal preparation (e.g., opening cartons, inserting straws, cutting meats) and revisits patients post-meal to address missing items or concerns.
- Pours coffee or hot water at the bedside as required.
- Collects soiled meal trays and returns them to the dishroom for washing and sanitizing; assists in stripping trays and maintaining sanitation of meal service carts.
- Maintains accurate, confidential patient information and verifies charges to the patient’s bill during end-of-day closing procedures.
- Handles diet requests from nursing units in a timely manner following established procedures.
- Participates in departmental meetings, education sessions, and staff development programs.
- Utilizes and maintains equipment safely according to department procedures.
- Accepts assignments and schedule changes as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- 2 years of prior cold food production in a healthcare setting or related experience.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, reading, and writing) to follow instructions and interact with others.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical skills for simple calculations.
- Ability to safely handle a knife and meat slicer.
Physical Demands
- Daily physical activity requiring the ability to stand and walk more than 7 hours per day (full-time shifts) or the entire shift (part-time).
- Ability to lift, push, or pull carts, pallets, food supplies, and disposable supplies (occasionally up to 50 pounds, frequently up to 30 pounds, and/or continuously up to 10 pounds).
- Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises; requires following safety precautions and using provided personal protective equipment (PPE).
