FOOD SERVICE TECHNICIAN I
About the Role
Patton State Hospital's Human Resources Department is accepting applications for at least one (1) Permanent, Part-Time, Food Service Technician I position in the Nutrition Services Department. This role is under the direct supervision of the Food Service Supervisor I.
Responsibilities
- Serve or assist with the preparation of food and beverages.
- Clean and maintain food service equipment, utensils, and all work areas as required.
- Instruct and work with helpers from the patient population.
- Work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings and security areas throughout the hospital.
- May be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital.
Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively at a level required for successful job performance.
- Grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- Accurately portion items when serving food and beverages.
- Actively listen and follow directions, keeping simple records (e.g., temperature logs, food and supply ordering sheets).
- Read and follow serving instructions for therapeutic diets.
- Communicate with individuals with varying levels of understanding.
- Monitor and interpret gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure sanitation machines are working properly.
- Operate automatic dishwashing machine equipment.
- Organize and calculate the amount of food products and supplies in stock, making appropriate judgments to identify when supplies are low.
- Physically lift and transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds as necessary.
- Read and follow directions/instructions in English to maintain effective communication with staff and patients.
- Follow proper handwashing procedures as outlined in Infection Control guidelines.
- Use proper body mechanics when lifting, reaching, and bending to prevent injury.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods of cleaning and preparing foods for cooking and storing food.
- Knowledge of maintaining food service areas, utensils, and equipment.
- Knowledge of pantry work related to inventory and storage of food and supplies.
- Knowledge of the proper use of various types of food service utensils appropriate for portion control.
- Knowledge of proper methods and techniques of food storage to prevent spoilage.
Schedule
- AM Shift: 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- PM Shift: 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM
