Lexington County School District One – Support Staff Salary Scale (Grade 6), 6 hours per day / 183 days per school year. Terms adjusted for part-time or partial-year hires.
About the role
Under general supervision, the Food Service Operator prepares and serves breakfast and/or lunch meals, maintains sanitary work areas, and follows all district, state, and USDA regulations. Work is reviewed through inspection and observation of results.
Responsibilities
- Supports and upholds the district’s mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Interacts, communicates, and collaborates effectively with all stakeholders.
- Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.
- Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
- Prepares one or several parts of meals in proper quantities; measures, mixes, seasons, garnishes, and follows approved recipes or package directions.
- Properly handles, stores, and/or disposes of leftover foods.
- Keeps simple records and makes reports as directed.
- Serves food using proper portion control utensils; sets up serving lines by stocking required food, drink, and other components; maintains proper food temperatures throughout preparation, service, and storage.
- Maintains sanitary conditions in assigned work areas; washes pots, pans, dishes, food-serving carts, and other kitchen equipment.
- Operates and/or utilizes food service appliances and equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, dishwashers, disposals, deep fryers, meat slicers, and cash registers; reports major repair needs to supervisor.
- Follows current district, state, and USDA federal rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
- Uses personal computing devices and software applications for information management and communication.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Prior food service experience preferred.
- Current government-issued identification.
- Ability to access reliable transportation.
- Personal computer experience; proficiency in word processing, email, spreadsheets, electronic file management, internet, and reporting/presentation software.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule to meet reporting deadlines.
- Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually or as part of a group.
- Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner.
- Computer literacy and knowledge of district policies, procedures, and operations.
- Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy and anticipate work without direct supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records.
- Ability to interact and communicate professionally with supervisors, coworkers, teachers, students, and the public.
Physical Demands
- Performs manual work requiring some physical strength and agility; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
- Pushes/pulls items such as furniture or boxes of materials.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision.
- Occasionally works irregular or extended hours.
- Frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.
Work Environment
- Noise level varies from quiet to loud depending on activity.
- Works long hours while standing with routine exposure to cold and heat.
- Performs repetitive tasks daily, including food preparation, service, receiving, storing, rotating products, and cleaning duties.
- Requires constant attention and ability to meet deadlines.
- Possible exposure to biohazard risks, including oral secretions and blood.
- Must wear a district-approved uniform, hard-soled/non-slip shoes, and a suitable and effective hair restraint.
