About the role

The Food Service Manager Class A (Floater) role involves communicating effectively with staff and ensuring district guidelines are followed. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing kitchen operations, and maintaining compliance with USDA and Michigan Department of Education guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and direct food service programs at assigned locations.
  • Maintain safe food handling techniques and methods during all food preparation and service.
  • Fill in at various schools during staff vacancies and absences.
  • Manage kitchen responsibilities using district hardware and software.
  • Create and maintain good employee morale and relationships.
  • Encourage students to eat by establishing an atmosphere conducive to healthy eating.
  • Affirm compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings and ongoing training.
  • Assess staff performance and submit accurate reports and services.
  • Order and receive food and paper supplies accurately.
  • Submit payroll and maintain production records.
  • Cook and maintain food productions.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED Certificate.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Associate degree in relevant field or supervision experience.
  • Computer skills (Office Suite, word processor, spreadsheets).
  • Knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety.
  • Leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Enthusiasm and pleasant personality.

Qualifications
