About the role

The Food Service Assistant (FSA) is responsible for serving diets as ordered to each resident according to a pre-planned schedule. This includes preparation of some menu items, plating meals following specifically ordered diets, following safe food handling policies/procedures, assisting trainer staff in dining rooms as needed, providing snacks and medically ordered nourishments for residents, completing proper food storage and labeling, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, ordering and replenishing stock items for the main kitchen, and providing appropriate interactions with residents.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe temperatures of food items.
  • Plate meals following specifically ordered diets.
  • Follow safe food handling policies/procedures.
  • Assist trainer staff in dining rooms as needed.
  • Provide snacks and medically ordered nourishments for residents.
  • Complete proper food storage and labeling.
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Order and replenish stock items for the main kitchen.
  • Provide appropriate interactions with residents.
  • Wash and store dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and appliances in the kitchen.

Requirements

The FSA must have knowledge and skills in food service with a focus on medical diets, as well as the ability to use various computer programs such as e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and general office equipment. Physical requirements include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, ability to exert up to 50 lbs of occasional force and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects. Visual acuity requirements include determining acuity accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Education and/or experience in food service with focus on medical diets that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade. The ability to use various computer programs such as e-mail, Microsoft Word, and Excel as well as general office equipment.
