About the role
Food Safety Specialists promote, protect, and maintain a healthy and safe environment for the public through inspection, education, and enforcement activities.
Responsibilities
- Identify, mitigate, and prevent disease transmission through improperly prepared foods, contaminated waters, and adulteration/misbranding of foods, drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices.
- Perform inspections, investigations, education, and enforcement activities in an assigned geographic or defined specialty work area.
- Apply principles, practices, and objectives of environmental health programs; interpret and apply laws, regulations, and standards.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science.
- One-and-one-half (1-1/2) years professional inspectional or investigational work experience involved in interpreting and applying public health laws, regulations, and standards.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of bacteriology, chemistry, physics, vector control methods, and social sciences.
- Tact in enforcing and interpreting sanitation laws, rules, and regulations.
Skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of sanitation sciences.
- Thorough understanding of relevant regulations and laws.
- Ability to apply principles and practices of environmental health programs.
