All About Food & Beverage

The Food & Beverage team ensures product freshness, availability, and accurate pricing on the sales floor. They lead food and food services including replenishment, inventory accuracy, food safety, presentation, pricing, and promotional signing processes for all Food & Beverage areas of the store.

The Role of a Food & Beverage Expert

This role provides skills and experiences such as guest service fundamentals, food and beverage business fundamentals, food seasonality, freshness and quality, food safety standards, and merchandising. A typical day includes delivering an exceptional guest experience, upholding Food & Beverage Standards, executing processes like food deliveries, replenishment, straightening merchandise, and maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Responsibilities

• Deliver an exceptional guest experience, prioritizing guest needs over tasks.
• Uphold and maintain Food & Beverage Standards.
• Execute Food & Beverage processes including food deliveries, replenishment, straightening merchandise, in-stocks routines, data accuracy, culling, rotation, cleaning, signing, and organizing and storing reserve product.
• Follow all food safety requirements as outlined in Target’s policies and procedures.
• Use sampling and suggestive selling to promote products and increase sales.
• Work with vendors to proactively set, maintain, and make planned changes to salesfloor merchandise displays and organize backroom space.
• Locate and identify damaged, recalled, or expired items and process according to Target’s policies and procedures.
• Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the total store and specific to your area to solve issues for guests and improve their experience.
• Execute all federal, state, and local adult beverage laws as they apply to your business.
• Appropriately use and care for in-store and personal protective equipment; follow equipment control guidelines.
• Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
• Work in a safe manner at all times; comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training; report hazards and correct where possible.
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick up (OPU), and Drive-up (DU) and maintain a compliance culture while executing those duties, such as compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests as you complete your daily tasks.
• Engage with guests in a welcoming way to help solve their specific needs.
• Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose to shop at Target.

Required Skills

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older (Bakery Only)
• Previous food or grocery experience preferred, but not required
• A welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and other team members
• Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed
• Ability to work both independently and with a team
• Resolve guest questions quickly
• Attention to detail and follow multi-step processes
• Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes

Company Information

We have some amazing training to teach you everything you need to know to be a Food & Beverage Expert. However, there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb up and down ladders
• Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds
• Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays)
• Reliable and prompt attendance necessary
• Ability to work in an environment that could range from 34°F to -10°F as needed
• Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
• Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
