About the role
As a Food Service Worker II PRN, you will perform a wide range of duties involved with preparing and serving foods and beverages in one or more food service operations. You will prepare food, serve food, and may serve as cashier in various areas including Cafeteria, Salad Aides, Nourishments, Plugger, and Grill.
Responsibilities
- Cafeteria:
- Demonstrate proper cash handling procedures including cash register operations, bank verification, meal passes, employee discounts, voids, and over rings.
- Ensure the cafeteria area is stocked with paper goods and inventory items.
- Maintain attractive product appearance served in sanitary conditions.
- Follow all HACCP guidelines for holding, serving, and storing food and food products.
- Meet all deadlines for opening and closing the cafeteria.
- Salad Aides:
- Follow standardized recipes and monitor food for appropriate taste and appearance.
- Review menus to determine type and quantities of salads to prepare.
- Follow standardized portion sizes for salads and desserts.
- Practice safe food handling techniques 100% of the time, including dating/labeling, time/temperature guidelines, and HACCP.
- Complete tasks in a timely manner and make deliveries as scheduled.
- Demonstrate proper plating and presentation techniques, using appropriate serving sizes.
- Nourishments:
- Perform routine diet nourishment functions, including tube feed mixing, preparing formulas, assembling supplements, and inventory for floor stock.
- Understand time-sensitive aspects of nourishment operations.
- Provide optimum service to patients and caregivers without compromising dietary restrictions or production demands.
- Cross-train and work in other areas of the department as needed.
- Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in routine and assigned duties.
- Understand modified diets, resources for non-typical modified diets, and tube feeding/baby formula diet order handling and preparation.
- Plugger:
- Perform routine patient cart functions, including plugging in carts, adding temperature-sensitive items to trays, preparing shakes, and checking tray temperatures.
- Understand time-sensitive aspects of the patient tray operation.
- Provide optimum service to patients and caregivers without compromising dietary restrictions or production demands.
- Cross-train and work in other areas of the department as needed.
- Demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in routine and assigned duties.
- Understand modified diets preparation and resources for non-typical modified diets.
- Grill:
- Prepare all grill and fried items in a sanitary and timely manner based on the menu.
- Pre-prepare and stock food items for use in the cafeteria grill area.
- Assist at steam table, salad bar, and beverage area during service periods.
- Practice safe food handling techniques 100% of the time, including dating/labeling, time/temperature guidelines, and HACCP.
- Greet and assist customers with their food needs in a courteous and polite manner.
- Practice service recovery skills as required.
- Maintain a clean work area, following all cleaning schedules.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Some Food Service experience is desirable.
- Food Handlers permit or must obtain during the first two weeks of hire date.
