The Florida Roadway Department Leader role within Gresham Smith's Transportation Market is an exciting opportunity for a visionary professional to lead, grow, and elevate the roadway design practice across Florida. This role requires a combination of strategic business insight, strong technical expertise, operational excellence, and a passion for building trusted client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of business development strategies specific to Florida’s roadway market, including identifying and pursuing new opportunities and clients.
  • Manage and oversee pursuit processes, ensuring alignment with company goals and client expectations.
  • Provide strong project management leadership to ensure timely, on-budget, and high-quality project delivery.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop top talent, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Implement and maintain quality assurance standards to ensure all work meets or exceeds industry and company standards.
  • Oversee daily operations and balance workload distribution effectively to optimize resources and project outcomes.
  • Collaborate regularly with state transportation leaders, agencies, and other stakeholders to build and maintain strong relationships.
  • Offer leadership and support to other service lines and promote integrated project delivery across disciplines.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions to position the department competitively.
  • Serve as a visible and engaged leader, representing the company at industry events, client meetings, and internal forums.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in roadway engineering preferably with Florida DOT and municipalities.
  • Strong background in business development and pursuit management within the transportation sector.
  • Excellent project management skills, with a track record of delivering complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, lead, and develop technical teams.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience interfacing with government agencies and clients.
  • Knowledge of Florida DOT processes, regulations, and key stakeholders is preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience, with extensive background in consulting or directly with our client(s).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
