About the role

The Customer Service and Benefits Specialist serves as the front-desk anchor at the Knox Children and Youth Center on Mondays and Tuesdays (8 AM–5 PM) and Fridays (8 AM–12 PM), totaling 20 hours weekly. The role also travels 20 hours per week to other locations, covering admissions and switchboard during staff absences. You’ll register clients, verify service eligibility, update insurance records, collect co-payments, and deliver quality customer service to clients, staff, and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Greet clients, visitors, and guests; determine visit purpose.
  • Monitor front desk security; comply with all procedures.
    • Open/close clinic at designated times.
    • Ensure orderly, efficient front-office operations.
  • Register clients, assess eligibility, and maintain payer/insurance data.
  • Collect co-payments and deductibles per policy.
  • Answer phones/emails within 1 business day; schedule, reschedule, cancel appointments.
  • Enter demographics into Centricity database without duplication; create medical record numbers.
  • Verify state/government insurance coverage online before service.
  • Update records with demographic changes; flag missing insurance cards.
  • Receive cash payments; issue receipts; remit to financial services within 2 business days.
  • Perform admissions data entry, inventory, file organization, copying, and supply ordering.
  • Assist admissions staff during absences; submit timesheets on time.
  • Attend meetings punctually; complete annual Relias training modules.
  • Train HIM staff on release-of-information policies with Compliance Officer.
  • Operate scheduler, phone, fax, and computer systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Administrative/clerical experience preferred; clinical setting experience a plus.
  • Computer proficiency; multitasking in fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent customer service, time management, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical workflows and insurance eligibility.
  • Teamwork and independent work capability.
  • Yearly Handle with Care (HWC) training; lift 50 lbs; stand/sit extended periods.
  • Normal/corrected vision and hearing.

Pay

Starting hourly wage: $17.43, based on experience and education.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM with 1-hour break (20 hrs/week). Additional 20 hrs/week covering admissions/switchboard at other locations during staff absences.
