Floater/Kitchen Assistant

About the role

The Floater/Assistant Teacher will assist the Lead Teacher in creating a caring and safe environment for children, supporting activities that improve overall care and educational quality. The role involves communicating, listening, and working well with others in a team setting, implementing a quality educational program, and developing positive relationships with children and their parents. Duties also include assisting with meals and clean‑up. This position may be full‑time or part‑time, with some benefits not available to part‑time employees.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
• Follow prepared lesson plans and lead by example, encouraging teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
• Plan individual and group age‑appropriate activities to actively engage children and promote social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
• Maintain frequent communication with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent‑teacher conferences.
• Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
• Maintain a healthy classroom environment, including hygiene, cleanliness, safety, and security of children.
• Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they follow planned activities, hygiene, and safety standards.
• Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
• Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
• Assist with meals and clean‑up.
• Provide routine care, including diaper changing and feeding.

Requirements

• Infant/Child and Adult CPR
• Pediatric First Aid
• ITS‑SIDS certification
• Current TB test
• Current physical examination
• Current criminal records check letter
• Current Workforce Qualifications Letter
• Physical ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls, and communicate at various volume levels; may be required to kneel, bend, squat, or crawl.
• Specific vision ability, including near and distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
