About the role
The Floater Assistant Teacher supports early childhood education programs, focusing on the successful operation of classrooms and the implementation of curriculum to enhance children's development.
Responsibilities
- Uses knowledge of child growth and development to work with children in a Head Start program.
- Maintains a child-centered curriculum and learning environment encouraging positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.
- Plans and implements learning experiences to improve children's readiness for school, including literacy, phonemic awareness, numeracy, language, and problem-solving skills.
- Addresses challenging behaviors through observation, prevention, skill teaching, and family partnerships.
- Documents children's progress using observations and anecdotal notes, and individualizes curriculum based on these observations.
- Involves families in the Head Start program and supports their roles at home.
- Maintains a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Supports the social and emotional development of children.
- Communicates with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participates in assigned meetings, events, and training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- CDA or enrolled to complete within 2 years, or a degree in any field or enrollment in a program leading to such degree.
- Prior experience with children 0-5 years.
