About the role
The Floater Assistant Teacher supports early childhood education programs, focusing on the successful operation of classrooms and the implementation of curriculum to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.
Responsibilities
- Uses knowledge of child growth and development to work with children in a Head Start program.
- Maintains a child-centered curriculum and learning environment encouraging positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation.
- Plans and implements learning experiences to improve children's readiness for school, including literacy, phonemic awareness, numeracy, language, and problem-solving skills.
- Addresses challenging behaviors through observation, prevention, skill teaching, and family partnerships.
- Documents children's progress using observations and anecdotal notes, and individualizes curriculum based on these observations.
- Involves families in the Head Start program and supports the development of relationships between children and families.
- Maintains a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Socially and emotionally supports children's development.
- Communicates with internal and external stakeholders.
- Attends assigned meetings, events, and training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- CDA or enrolled to complete within 2 years, or a degree in any field or enrollment in a program leading to such degree.
- Prior experience with children 0-5 years.
