Float Medical Assistant

About the role

The Cooley Dickenson Float Pool team is a group of specially trained employees ready to cover clinical operations in outpatient practices. We are seeking a Medical Assistant to work per diem, covering various practices across the Pioneer Valley.

Responsibilities

• Takes vital signs, documents patient information, schedules appointments, and manages patient flow.
• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day tasks and facilitates their learning.
• Interviews patients, explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions.
• Collaborates with healthcare providers, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to ensure efficient care.
• Performs general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms.
• Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
• Administers immunizations (as applicable), requiring certification or 3 years of experience administering vaccines and supervision of a provider.
• Improves departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Direct MA experience or medical field work preferred (0-1 year).
• Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Various Issuers preferred.
• Certified Medical Assistant - Various Issuers preferred.
