What You’ll Do

As an Intermediate Fleet Technician, you will work under the general supervision of the Service Manager, Service Supervisor, or designated Lead Technician. With proper training and experience, you will diagnose minor mechanical and electrical problems in accordance with all standard repair practices and Federal and State compliance guidelines. This role includes:

• Road testing vehicles to ensure quality and effectiveness of repairs and identifying potential concerns.
• Exercising judgement and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs.
• Performing all duties and skills associated with lesser classifications.

Responsibilities

• Determine vehicle condition by conducting Preventive Maintenance Inspections, oil changes, and chassis lubrication while identifying worn and damaged parts.
• Install component and part upgrades on light, medium, and heavy-duty tractors and other equipment.
• Perform inspections at customer locations using a service truck, including in inclement weather.
• Maintain the service truck to standard, including cleanliness and resupply.
• Perform service calls to diagnose and repair vehicle breakdowns.
• Correct vehicle deficiencies by repairing, replacing, adjusting, disassembling, and assembling components in all major equipment system areas.
• Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
• Perform tire replacements, rotations, mounting, and dismounting as needed.
• Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
• Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
• Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and full understanding of heavy-duty electrical systems using proper diagnostic tools.
• Identify the root cause of failures and conditions on all systems and components, performing repairs as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• Post-secondary vocational education (strongly preferred).
• 4 years’ experience in mechanical inspections and repairs in a related field.
• Valid Class B Driver’s License.
• CFC 609 Certification.
• Basic welding skills.

Physical Requirements

Pay

$34-$38/hour depending on skills and experience.
