About the Role

Fleet / Trailer Technician - Intermediate Level; works under the general supervision of the Service Manager, Service Supervisor, or designated Lead Technician. This role involves diagnosing minor mechanical and electrical problems in accordance with all standard repair practices, along with Federal and State compliance guidelines. The position includes road-testing vehicles to ensure quality and effectiveness of repairs, identifying potential concerns, and exercising judgment and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs.

Responsibilities

• Act as a mentor to lesser-qualified Technicians.
• Actively seek and participate in available training to enhance personal development.
• Determine vehicle condition by conducting Preventive Maintenance Inspections, oil changes, chassis lubrication, and identifying worn and damaged parts (both in-shop and remotely).
• Perform campaigns, install components, and part upgrades as directed.
• Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
• Perform tire repairs, replacements, and rotations as needed.
• Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and emission control standards.
• Control costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications.
• Participate in specific training programs as prescribed by VTRL.

Requirements

• 4+ years’ experience in a related field of automotive/Heavy Truck.
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• Trailer maintenance experience is a must.
• Advanced knowledge and full understanding of Heavy-Duty trucks and trailers.
• Able to identify the root cause of failures/conditions on all systems and components and perform required repairs.
• Must be CFC 609 Certified.
• Basic welding skills.
• High School Diploma or its equivalent (Post-Secondary vocational education strongly preferred).
• Ability to understand and adhere to Company Policies in all areas.
• Ability to work alone with little or no direction at times.
• Ability to lift a maximum of 75 lbs.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Must be able to pass post-offer drug screening, physical examination (including lift test), and background check.

Pay

$30.00 hourly depending on experience and qualifications.
