About the role
The City of St. George Fleet Department is seeking a Master Technician to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of vehicles, including emergency vehicles, transit buses, trucks, and automobiles.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel, gasoline, and various other types of vehicles.
- Perform major engine overhauls, adjust computer command controls, and replace defective parts.
- Use sophisticated computer testing equipment to diagnose drivetrain and exhaust after treatment components.
- Perform oxyacetylene and electronic welding as required.
- Lay out, cut, and fit material for welding.
- Perform state safety inspections.
- Understand and diagnose multiplex data systems using laptop computer technology.
- Make decisions on what repairs will be made and complete all required work to achieve proper vehicle performance.
- Perform preventive maintenance for all City equipment and vehicles.
- Up-fit various vehicles with extensive electrical and computer software knowledge and procedures.
- Train and assist with supervision of Journey Technician and Apprentice Technician.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Training in CAN/multiplexing data systems required.
- Minimum of eight (8) years full time currently employed in Automotive/Diesel truck or Heavy equipment repair, electrical repair, and diagnosis of complex computer systems with current technology of passenger vehicles and light duty pickups.
- Thorough knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN) system network communication.
- Experience and ability to wire and/or repair any components in a complete electrical system.
Qualifications
- Absolutely must possess ASE Master Certification and maintain certifications.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a valid Utah Commercial Driver License Class B within 6 months of hire.
- Must obtain State safety inspection certification for buses and heavy trucks within 90 days of employment.
- Must obtain Refrigerant recovery and recycling certification within 90 days of employment.
