About the role
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor oversees a team responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include assisting in the hiring and training of technicians, managing schedules, monitoring work quality and safety, and controlling costs.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the hiring process, training technicians and managing work schedules.
- Aid in performance evaluations.
- Attend regular meetings and communicate effectively with upper management on Fleet Maintenance operations.
- Maintain quality and safety standards during work in progress and at completion.
- Ensure compliance with local/state/federal regulations related to vehicle maintenance and safety.
- Maintain adherence to company policy regarding operations and safety issues.
- Monitor operational performance and efficiency, taking corrective actions as needed.
- Prioritize repairs to minimize service disruptions and maximize vehicle uptime.
- Control maintenance costs related to personnel, purchasing, inventory control, and outsourcing of repairs.
- Review status reports including road calls, breakdowns, shop hours, and other trends.
- Assure all data pertaining to the maintenance operation is accurately entered into the vehicle maintenance system.
- Interact professionally with employees, vendors, suppliers, and contractors.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Three years of vehicle, equipment, and hydraulic maintenance experience, one year of supervisory experience.
- Certifications: Valid commercial driver's license preferred; Mechanic school certification and/or ASE certification preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb, handle inspection tools, and perform fleet inspections; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; must be able to speak and write English and hear to communicate.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant federal regulations.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong motivational, coaching, and teaching skills.
- Must meet all regulatory requirements to operate trucks and other equipment used.
