About the role
This position involves performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on various vehicles, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery operated by Mesa County. The role also includes installing specialized accessory equipment and performing welding and fabricating tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on Mesa County’s fleet of heavy equipment, light automotive vehicles, light and medium duty trucks, transit buses, specialized seasonal equipment, and machinery.
- Diagnostics and repairs of gasoline and diesel engines, power train components, hydraulic systems, A/C systems, hydraulic and air brake systems, complex electrical and electronic systems, and other components.
- Use diagnostic scan tools, analyzers, digital volt/ohm meters, A/C recovery and charge stations, and other fluid recycler/recovery machines.
- Work independently on field repair assignments, using vehicle and equipment high lifts, and specialty shop tools.
- Assume lead worker responsibilities in the absence of direct supervision.
- Perform federal DOT-mandated safety inspections and certify vehicle safety.
- Communicate effectively through oral and written means.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school education or GED with one (1) year vocational/technical school training specific to heavy equipment and automotive repair and maintenance.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible related work experience.
- A Class "A" or "B" Colorado Commercial Driver's License - Tanker Endorsement.
- MAC's or Comparable Air Conditioning (R-134a) Certification (desired).
- Department of Transportation Safety Inspector Certification (or regulatory experience requirements).
- A.S.E. Certifications (desired).
Qualifications
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use a desktop, laptop, or tablet-based terminal to log labor time and repair notes and data to electronic work orders.
- Knowledge, experience, and skills to read and follow technical instructions and diagnostic flow charts.
- Experience with diagnostic scan tools, analyzers, digital volt/ohm meters, A/C recovery and charge stations, and other fluid recycler/recovery machines.
- Experience with vehicle and equipment high lifts and other specialty shop tools.
- Experience with welding and metal cutting tools and equipment.
- Experience with shop equipment, cleaning, and detailing of vehicles and equipment.
Skills
