Fleet Compliance Manager - B&T

About the role

This role will not manage day-to-day fleet operations, which remain the responsibility of individual stores. Instead, the role will implement standardised frameworks, systems, policies, and analytics to ensure fleet compliance, improve asset utilisation, and drive data-led cost optimisation and performance improvement across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Fleet Governance & Compliance
    • Develop and enforce a centralised fleet governance framework across all B&T locations
    • Ensure compliance with road traffic legislation and licensing requirements, vehicle roadworthiness standards, insurance and risk requirements, and internal fleet policies and procedures
    • Implement standardised fleet policies, SOPs, and controls across all stores
    • Conduct regular fleet audits (desktop) to assess compliance and identify gaps
  • Centralised Fleet Visibility & Reporting
    • Establish a single source of truth for all fleet-related data at B&T national level
    • Implement systems to provide real-time visibility into asset status and condition, licensing and compliance, utilisation rates, and maintenance adherence
    • Develop standardised reporting dashboards for executive and operational leadership
    • Ensure consistent and accurate data capture across all stores
  • Fleet Analytics & Performance Insights
    • Design and implement advanced analytics frameworks to monitor fleet performance
    • Analyse key metrics such as cost per vehicle / cost per km, fuel consumption trends, maintenance spend and lifecycle costs, utilisation and idle time, and incidents, accidents, and claims
    • Translate insights into actionable recommendations for stores and leadership
    • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Strategic Fleet Optimisation
    • Develop and drive fleet optimisation strategies, including asset standardisation, fleet right-sizing, and vehicle replacement cycles
    • Lead initiatives to improve total cost of ownership (TCO)
    • Introduce and evaluate innovations, including telematics and tracking systems, digital fleet management platforms, and alternative fuel or energy-efficient vehicles
    • Build business cases for new technologies and process improvements
  • Cost Management & Value Creation
    • Identify and drive cost-saving initiatives through improved governance and analytics
    • Consolidate and standardise supplier, leasing, and insurance arrangements where appropriate
    • Track and report on fleet-related savings and efficiencies delivered
    • Support budgeting processes with data-driven insights
  • Stakeholder Enablement & Change Management
    • Partner with store and regional management to embed centralised fleet standards
    • Act as a centre of excellence for fleet management practices across the business
    • Drive a strong fleet safety culture, including driver behaviour management and training programmes
    • Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure adoption of policies and systems
    • Drive behavioural change from decentralised management to a more controlled, visible model
  • Vendor & Systems Management
    • Select and manage fleet technology platforms (telematics, tracking, analytics tools)
    • Establish and monitor supplier performance frameworks and SLAs
    • Ensure systems integration and effective data utilisation across the organisation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Finance, or Business
  • Certification in fleet management, compliance, or asset management (advantageous)

Experience

  • 8–10+ years' experience in fleet, asset management, or logistics strategy roles
  • Proven experience in centralised governance or multi-site environments
  • Strong background in fleet analytics, reporting, and cost optimisation
  • Experience implementing fleet systems, telematics, or digital transformation initiatives

Skills

  • Advanced data analysis and reporting (Excel, Power BI, or similar BI tools)
  • Experience with fleet management and telematics systems
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory environments
  • Financial modelling and cost analysis capabilities
