About the role
The Flame Table Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, or tending ESOP and plasma torch cutting machines to cut components or assemblies. Responsibilities include adjusting and starting welding machines, loading work pieces, inspecting completed metal work pieces, utilizing nesting software, assembling and aligning parts, and maintaining equipment.
Responsibilities
- Turn and press knobs and buttons or enter operating instructions into computers to adjust and start welding machines.
- Set up, operate and tend welding machines that join or bond components to fabricate metal products or assemblies.
- Load or feed work pieces into welding machines in order to join or bond components.
- Give directions to other workers regarding machine setup and use.
- Correct problems by adjusting controls, or by stopping machines and opening holding devices.
- Inspect, measure or test completed metal work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices.
- Record operational information on specified production reports.
- Read blueprints, work orders and production schedules to determine product or job instructions and specifications.
- Utilize the nesting software to create work orders for the plasmas.
- Assemble, align and clamp work pieces into holding fixtures to bond, heat-treat, or solder fabricated metal components.
- Lay out, fit or connect parts to be bonded, calculating production measurements as necessary.
- Remove work pieces and parts from machinery after work is complete, using hand tools.
- Select, position, align and bolt jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and stops onto machines, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Select torch consumables and proper settings according to metal types and thicknesses, data charts and records.
- Compute and record settings for new work, applying knowledge of metal properties, principles of cutting and shop mathematics.
- Prepare or deburr metal surfaces and work pieces using hand-operated equipment such as grinders, cutters or drills.
- Clean, lubricate, maintain and adjust equipment to maintain efficient operation, using air hoses, cleaning fluids, and hand tools.
- Set dials and timing controls to regulate electrical current, gas flow pressure, heating/cooling cycles, and shut-off.
- Tend auxiliary equipment used in cutting processes.
- Transfer components, metal products, and assemblies, using moving equipment.
- Add chemicals and materials to work pieces or machines to cool work pieces.
- Mark weld points and positions of components on work pieces, using rules, squares, templates and scribes.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent education/experience.
- No prior experience necessary.
- Computer literate is necessary.
